Erasmus Mandus SALAM was a European programmed under action 2, Lot 7. It was funded by the European Union in the framework of the Capacity Building for Higher Education. Aimed to foster cooperation between HEIs in Iran, Iraq & Yemen and the EU. Specific goals of the project were:
• Development of qualifications and career prospects of students and staff,
• Promotion of mobility between L8C and EU, especially of those from vulnerable groups,
• Promotion of intercultural dialogue and mutual enrichment of societies of the Lot countries and
Europe,
• Contribution to the sustainable development of the countries involved,
• Promotion of the EHEA and the ERA as centers of excellence.
SALAM tightened the existing bonds with partner HEIs in L8C as well as initiate cooperation with new institutions in order to create a long-lasting, structured collaboration in education & research.
The added value of SALAM focused on quality in mobility, recognition of the results and sustainability of the project’s outcomes.
The shift in mobility distribution towards PhD, post-doc & staff mobility served for knowledge transfer and the multiplier effect of the project’s outcomes. SALAM also offered additional e-learning possibilities to beneficiaries, alumni & staff at partner HEIs in L8C for personal and professional skills development.
EMA2 SALAM was coordinated by university of warsaw-Poland.The Erasmus Mundus Action2 SALAM was a scholarship programme for Iraq, Iran and Yemen universities.The scholarships concerned with one year visiting undergraduates students, 22months Master studies , 34 months Ph.D. studies, 6 months Post-doctoirate studies and one month academic staff traing in one of consortium partner universities.
The project contributed to the sustainable development of higher education at Salahaddin university-Erbil.
In Salahaddin university, 5 BA students, 1 MA student, one Ph.D. student and 2 post doctorates were benefited from the project under the category of student/staff mobilities.
